I can’t say much about these songs which often kept close to trot. “Overnight in the tent” shows a warm voice to it. The slowly waltzing and somewhat filmic “Yalu Voyeur” is somewhat distinctively different. It has folk-like flavors through responding voices.

생애/활동사항
1902년 평양에서 출생한 강홍식은 평양 광성고보 2학년 때 일본으로 건너가 대성중학교에서 4학년까지 다녔다. 성악가가 되기 위해 동경오페라에 들어갔으나 성공하지 못했고, 배우로 전환하였다. 이후 일본의 일활(日活)영화사에서 야마모토 가이치[山本嘉一]에게 연기를 배웠다. 「쌍옥루」(1925), 「장한몽」(1926), 「산채왕」(1926)에 출연하면서 ‘진훈’이라는 가명으로 활동했다.
1927년 귀국하여 심훈이 감독한 「먼동이 틀 때」에 주연으로 출연하였다. 이때 영화의 주제가를 직접 불러 이후 ‘조선타령’, ‘처녀총각’, ‘봄총각 봄처녀’, ‘항구의 애수’, ‘배따라기’ 등 많은 노래를 레코드로 취입해 가수로도 활동하였다. 연극계로도 진출하여 취성좌를 거쳐 조선연극사에 참여하였는데, 조선연극사에서는 무대감독을 맡았다. 1933년 무렵 부인인 전옥과 함께 조선연극사를 탈퇴하고, 빅터레코드사와 전속 계약을 맺고 활동하였다. 일제 말기에 「복지만리」(1938), 「집 없는 천사」(1941), 「망루의 결사대」(1943), 「거경전」(1944) 등의 영화에 출연하였다.
평양에서 해방을 맞은 강홍식은 평양에 머물며 이후 북한에서의 영화사 설립에 공헌했다. 그는 국립영화촐영소의 연출가로 활동하며 기록영화 「3·8선」을 연출하고 1948년 6월 북조선인민위원회 문화선전국 극장관리처 안에 만들어진 ‘시나리오 창작위원회’ 위원으로 활동했다. 1949년 북한 최초의 극영화 「내 고향」의 연출을 맡았다. 한국전쟁 중 제작된 예술영화 「초소를 지키는 사람들」의 시나리오를 썼고, 「바다는 부른다」(1956)에서는 배우로 출연했으며, 「항쟁의 서곡」(1960), 「붉은 신호탄」(1960), 「청년작업반장」(1962)의 연출을 맡는 등 여러 분야에서 활동하였다.
1971년에 사망하였고, 그의 아들 강효선, 강효순, 강효재 역시 북한의 연출가, 음악가, 배우이다. 또한 그의 딸 강효실과 외손자 최민수는 한국에서 배우로 활동하고 있다.

Born in Pyongyang in 1902, Kang Hong-sik moved to Japan when he was in the second year of Pyongyang Gwangseong Gobo and went to the fourth grade at Daesung Middle School. He entered Tokyo Opera to become a singer but was unsuccessful. Later, he studied acting with Kaichi Yamamoto at a Japanese film company. He appeared in Ssangokru (1925), Jang Han Mong (1926), and Sanchae King (1926), acting under the pseudonym "Jinhoon''
He returned to Korea in 1927 and starred in the time of Mundong's film directed by Shim Hoon. At this time, she sang the theme song of the film and later acted as a singer by recording a number of songs such as "Chosun Tayeong", "Virgin", "Spring Virgin", "Virgin Harbor", and "Boating". He also entered the theater world and participated in Korean theater through brittle seats, where he acted as stage director. In 1933 he left Chosun Theater with his wife, Jeon-ok, and signed a contract with Victor Records. In late Japan, he appeared in films such as "Bokman-ri" (1938), "Angels without Home" (1941), "Watchtowers" (1943), and "The Great Scriptures" (1944).
Kang Hong-sik, who was liberated from Pyongyang, stayed in Pyongyang and later contributed to the establishment of a film company in North Korea. He worked as a director of the National Film and Film Institute and directed the documentary film "3rd and 8th", and in June 1948 he was a member of the "Scenario Creation Committee," which was created within the Theater Management Bureau of the North Korean People's Committee. In 1949, he directed North Korea's first dramatic film My Home. He wrote scenarios of the art films ``People Guardians ' produced during the Korean War, and appeared as actors in ` The Sea Calls'' (1956), ``The Overture of Struggle'' (1960), ``Red Signal Bullet'' (1960). He has worked in various fields, such as directing the Youth Working Group ”(1962).
He died in 1971, and his sons Kang Hyo-sun, Kang Hyo-sun and Kang Hyo-jae are also North Korean directors, musicians and actors. His daughter Kang Hyo-sil and his grandson Choi Min-soo are also active actors in Korea.
Significance: He was an actor who played an active role in the modern and modern times of Korea, especially as a contributor to the development of North Korean film history, as well as an actress, screenwriter, and director.
