조용필 - Cho Yong Pil / Jo Yong-Pil (Five Fingers / Kim Trio Band)
I had already the opportunity to listen to the album on YouTube before I had it. This was my first impression: Although Cho Yong Pil is a mainstream crooner / Trot singing, I still decided to list this album, because its accompaniment is dominated by keyboards with drum & bass, where at times it’s synth use is even the main element. The last track on side A sounds like a light disco-funky instrumental (guitars, keyboards, drums). The songs themselves don’t surpass the usual

유성기로 듣던 일제시대 풍자 해학송 / The satire of Japanese imperialists heard during the Meteor period * 14 미스 리갈 / Miss Regal : 신접살이 풍경 / Critter Scenery (1938) In this track we hear very happy rhythms and arrangements, nice varied singing and arrangement, - a great song. According to the stories read elsewhere it had become a habit of labels to name some newcomers with Miss or Mister, like Miss Regal for the Regal label, with her eyes covered just to make people curious -- what’s up? 유종섭 / Yoo Jong Sup 劉鍾燮
Jung Sub-Yoo looks like a very fashionable guy, but these songs themselves (I heard 6 in total) were all still a bit mainstream although they're absolutely just fine, and also, while his voice still is like a gentle contribution to them. An exception and a more original song choice is a duet with 김인숙 / Kim In Sook, a train song with whistle sound and all called 신혼 아까스키 / Honeymoon Acaski (1938) Tracks can be found here: 유성기로 듣던 불멸의 명가수: 얼굴없는 명가수(1) Immortal Master Singer: A F

유성기로 듣던 불멸의 명가수: 얼굴없는 명가수(1) / Immortal Master Singer: A Faceless Master Singer (1) 17 아리랑의 꿈 / Arirang's Dream (REGAL 383) As the title already shows this is an arirang song led by acoustic guitar rhythms, with trot-like arrangements of clarinet and close violin and flute, it also has accents by Hawaiian slide guitar, it's rhythm has more Korean roots. 유성기로 듣던 가요사 / Songs that I heard during the musical period from (1925~1945) [Disc 2] 옛 님을 그리면서 / Painting the Old (1934) Al

쟈니 리 - Johnny Lee (KeyBoys)
Tracks you can find here: V.A.: Music Museum 220 Best of 1 뜨거운 안녕 / A passionate Hello (1959) 10 내일은 해가 뜬다 / Tomorrow, it will come (1966) Johnny Lee has a slightly hissed voice while being able to vary his voice and turn quickly to more power, with a bit crooner-like singing. This slow song on the breach of a cry is completely fit for his voice. The arrangements are bass, drums, (and some accordion), with additional strings and some brass harmonies. The second song has a mor

정원 - Jung Won
You can find tracks here: V.A.: Music Museum 220 Best of (CD-Box) CD6-11 무작정 걷고싶어 / I want to walk aimlessly (1967) This track is a sort of tango/bolero-pop with electric guitar and accordion with a bit of extra arrangements like picked violins, a song which dances its story slowly towards its goal... CD10-16 배신자 / Traitor (1967) "Traitor" has the same way of slowly developing the song, this time in a bit more crooner way, singing the way someone cries. The accompaniment is b

아빠의 말씀 / Jung Yu Jin & Choi Bul Am
Music Research Jung Yu Jin & Choi Bul Am (아빠의 말씀) (Remastered) (2008) 2008-12-10 ; original LP : 1981 Korean description: "The album was released just before Christmas in 1981 and became a best-selling song album. In particular, Choi Jung-jin, the song of "Life itself will let you know" originally sung by Anthony Quinn and Charlie, brings back memories." The first song with child's voice and father like responses is destined/almost doomed for its intended nostalgic purposes.

전옥 - Jeon Ok (Chun Ok) (全 玉)
Three songs were to found on this compilation of Chun Ok or Jean-Ok. We hear a Japanese sounding early trot song with high soprano, accompanied by piano chords, some violin and clarinet/trombone and some resonating metal chords (some sort of gong ?) effect instrument. The second track shows more emotionality in singing, and an accompaniment by acoustic guitar and violin. It is a rather Japanese sounding early trot, with some orchestral responses with banjo. The last early tro
