이연실 - Lee Yun-Sil (Lee Yeon-Sil)
The first few tracks are somewhat similar in style as the Eun He item from 1971, which I thought at first was from the same and similarly looking artist, but perhaps this one is even sweeter, with beautiful arrangements, full of subtle romance ; the voice of the singer here is very beautiful too, making the music as a finished product to some unforgetable moments. Some other tracks are sung by male voice, a bit more in direction of taverne song entertainment. Most tracks I mu

홍민 - Hong Min
This is a rather good album of a singer who hangs in between a few styles, starting and returning to a folkier song and also songwriter music accompanied by acoustic and electrified guitars mostly, to a few more crooners with the inclusion of strings and flute arrangements and more humpapa rhythms (an early part on the album isn’t the most outstanding introduction, track 2,3), with a few tracks hanging a bit in between these two styles (like track 4). Other, and especially th

현경과 영애 - Hyun Kyung & Young Ae
현경과 영애 – 현경과 영애 / 그리워라 This is a rather nice duo folk-pop album. The dual vocals fit within range of late 50s, early 60s and late 60s softer, melancholic and sometimes lighter happy pop songs, all except one sung in Korean. There are some orchestrations, acoustic guitars, soft drums, some organ and piano. This is all about innocence, melancholy, occasionally sing-a-long chansons. “Christmas Bells” is the only English song, a very light-hearted song almost like a mainstream

바블껌 - Bubble Gum
This is a rather nice reissue of acoustic songs with harmony vocals. The first six tracks have orchestrations too. Especially the first track is well worked out with nice melodic strings and string plucks, and some flute. On the second track we hear a trumpet solo, on the sixth track some additional clarinet. The guitars, mostly two acoustic guitars, are mostly used to play happy rhythms. The vocal harmonies, even when the male or female singer is leading are done very well.

V.A.: 눈물로 쓴 편지 "Winter Woman" OST
"This film music album is a light but entertaining album with studio band based arrangements, and a bit Italian style at times. There has been good attention to add several layers of arrangements with relaxed picking guitars, organ, electric guitars, analogue keyboards and organ, reed instruments and sax and a breathy female vocalist, who besides a few real songs sings a nanana song on one track. Here and there are funky elements too, including some brass. (One of the tracks

정종숙 - Jeong Jong-Suk / Jung Chong-Suk / (Jong-Sook) (1+1 / One plus One)
" When I checked out the double CD compilation, I found out that the singer was the solo career of 1+1 duo. The songs on the first CD are rather OK to rather enjoyable pop music, with, for me still however far too many, if not preferable, most tracks I preferred to skip before the end. The only real good track is the track I knew from the ’79 album I have reviewed first below. In a way it still is a bit disappointing to hear how a person, as a singer in this context still see

1+1 / 원플러스원 / One Plus One (& Light Of The East)
Technically these are good voices of western-styled, soft mainstream song based pop music with a Korean touch. Good for its genre, but less the sort of music for collectors of psychedelic and acid folk. Most of it contains more mainstream songs, but especially the 6th track in delicate folk-pop style is worth taking out. I was a bit quick in reviewing this one in those early days. After so many years, I can say that I can really easily appreciate the harmony feeling in these

산이슬 - Mountain Dew (Sanyiseul)
I find this album a bit more difficult to categorise. While this is leaning towards the mainstream of the Western based song music tradition rooted in the 50s and further evolutions towards to 60s and some of the 70s, with lush orchestrations and beautiful dual vocal harmonies, and there are a few of the kind of lullabies for adults involved, and a few lighter uptempo sweetening pop songs, it sounds like sincere interpretations and perhaps inspirations. There are some associa

김정호 - Kim Jung-Ho (April & May)
MRCD0902 Kim Jung Ho looks like an LP which could be singer-songwriting etc. and it might be that as well, but also, it is the rather schlager-kind of songwriting, close to Trot, arranged with studio music that is also mainstream, besides having electric piano, keyboards, bass, drums, acoustic guitar and strings and a few more instruments. Some songs are sung by female singers, but are also mellow and sentimental. Also the folk track (13) with two picking guitars, with some h
