윤지영 - Yoon Ji-Jyeong (Yun Ji Young)
After hearing before a few too many mainstream and more mediocre musical quality reissues from the 70s, this album comes as a complete relief. This is the real, original stuff in songs, arrangements etc.
Mostly the songs are rather melancholic, ballad-like but the arrangements are rich with organ, drum, electric piano, soft accompanying acoustic and electric picking with additionally strings/oboe/flutes, some female choir backings of a more popular classic fashion and approach, but with successful effect.
The last few tracks with acoustic guitar only prove the songs were really penned (and inspired) acoustically first, for which such songs in fact don’t really need much else.

‘김민기, 이주원의 음악동료로서 석 장의 앨범만을 남긴 포크가수 윤지영’

1974년 오아시스레코드에서 제작된 윤지영 2집은 가요음반 수집가들 사이에 알려진 것처럼 70년대 포크의 원형질을 담은 음반은 아니다. 윤지영은 단순한 통기타 연주보다 밴드와 오케스트라 반주의 스케일 큰 음악을 선호했던 가수였기 때문이다. 하지만 마지막 트랙인 ‘그날’과 같이, 깔끔하고 세련된 통기타 선율이 귀에 감겨오는 근사한 어쿠스틱 포크송 또한 포진하고 있다. 생전에 형제처럼 절친한 관계를 유지했던 고 이주원이 “정말 노래를 잘하는 친구”라고 추켜세웠듯 그는 가사를 정확하게 전달하는 시원한 음색의 창법을 구사한다.
총 12곡이 수록된 윤지영 2집 <고향 가는 길>은 사실상 포크의 전설 김민기 작곡집이라 해도 과언이 아니다. 이 음반은 1993년 4장으로 구성된 김민기 시리즈 음반들에 의해 처음으로 대중에게 알려졌던 노래들의 오리지널 버전이 대거 수록된 진귀한 음반이다. 윤지영 곡 ‘내 노래에 날개가 있다면’과 ‘초겨울’ 그리고 가곡 ‘선구자’를 제외한 나머지 트랙 모두가 김민기의 곡들로 빼곡하게 채워져 있기 때문이다. 이는 이 음반의 발굴과 복원이 70년대 대중음악의 핵심 키워드인 '김민기'에 대한 담론을 다시금 환기시키기에 충분한 놀랍고 매력적임을 의미한다. 실제로 김민기가 이 음반의 제작에도 깊숙이 관여한 것으로 보인다. 윤지영을 위해 기꺼이 신곡을 만들었고 ‘내나라 내겨례’에서는 직접 자신의 육성 녹음까지 참여했으니 놀랍지 않은가! 김민기의 향기가 가득한 윤지영 2집은 검열에 걸려 정식 발매를 하지 못하고 사장된 음반으로 알려져 있다. 실제로 모든 수록곡에 크레딧을 명기하지 않고 ‘황혼’ 등의 노래에서 보이는 순화된 가사는 검열을 통과하기 위한 방편으로 보인다. 하지만 당대의 일반 대중가요 가사와 차별되는 범상치 않은 수상한 분위기의 가사들은 끝내 이 음반의 생명력을 봉쇄했다. 그 결과, 보컬리스트로서 출중한 재능을 지닌 윤지영은 대중적 조명을 받지 못하고 사라진 비운의 가수로 짧은 활동을 마감한다. 윤지영의 대표곡 ‘내 노래에 날개가 있다면’은 김세화 버전으로 널리 알려진 히트곡이다. 빅토르 위고가 쓴 동명의 시를 모티브로 삼은 ‘내 노래에 날개가 있다면’은 윤지영이 작사 작곡하여 1973년 성음제작소에서 발표된 자신의 1집에 최초로 수록했다. 김세화 버전은 5년 뒤인 1978년에 리메이크되었으며 고 이주원의 아내인 샹송가수 전마리도 1991년 발표한 2집에서 이 노래를 프랑스어 버전으로 커버해 화제를 모았었다. 또한 1992년 선천적 음치의 열등감을 그렸던 MBC드라마 베스트 극장의 주제가로도 사용된 바 있다. 수록곡 중 또 다른 윤지영의 창작곡인 '초겨울'은 1979년 지구레코드에서 발표된 따로또같이 1집과 1986년에 발표된 김응환 2집에도 흔적을 찾을 수 있는 노래다. "Yoon Ji-young's 2nd album, produced by Oasis Records in 1974, is known among music collectors. Yoon Ji-young was a singer who preferred the music of the band and orchestra accompaniment rather than playing simple guitar. But like the last track, 'Day of the Day', still shows a nice acoustic folk song with a clean and refined acoustic guitar tune. The late Lee Joo-won, referred to him as “friend who sings very well”, with a cool tonal technique which delivers the lyrics accurately.
Yoon Ji-young's 2nd album, "Road to Hometown", contains a total of 12 songs. This album is a rare album containing a large number of original versions of songs which were not known to the public before the Kim Min-ki series, an album in four chapters released in 1993. All tracks except Yoon Ji-young's song 'If Wings Have Wings', 'Early Winter' and the song 'Hero Pioneer' are from Kim Min-ki. This means that the excavation and restoration of this record is surprising and attractive enough to re-emerge the discourse on Kim Min-gi, a key keyword of popular music in the 1970s. In fact, Kim Min-ki seems to have been deeply involved in the production of this album. Isn't it surprising to know he made a new song for Yoon Ji-young and participated in the recording of my upbringing in 'Nanae Naeyeorye'! Yoon Ji-young's 2nd album, full of Kim Min-gi's fragrance only, because Kim Min-Ki at that time was censored. The kind of lyrics, which appear in songs such as Twilight, do not specify credits in all the songs, but seem to have been a way to pass the censorship not mentioning its first inspiration. The unusually suspicious lyrics that distinguished themselves from the popular pop songs of the time finally shows off the album's vitality. As a result, Yoon Ji-young, as a talented vocalist, still received a relative short career, disappearing quickly from public attention. Yoon Ji-young's representative song “If My Song Has Wings” is a hit song widely known as Kim Se-hwa's version. Based on the poem of the same name by Victor Hugo, 'If My Song Has Wings' it was written by Yoon Ji-young himself. Kim Se-hwa's version was reinterpreted in 1978, five years later, and Lee Joo-won's wife, Chan-song singer Jeon-mari, also covered the song with a French version of his second album in 1991. It was also used as the theme song for MBC's Best Theater, in 1992. Yoon Ji-young's original song, "Early Winter'' is a song that can be found in the first album of 1979 and Kim Eung-hwan's 2nd album released in 1986."

This new reissue is the previous album which contains folk/pop songs with several (Western pop and Korean pop) covers too (I recognize at least a Beatles song, and of course a somewhat funny but really fine interpretation of the hit “The Lion Sleeps Tonight”). Yun has a convincing voice in the western folk/pop tradition of mostly the early 70s that provides good songs with (lush) orchestrations and other well-fit studio arrangements. A nice item for western collector’s taste as well. Only 300 were printed on CD in miniature-LP format.

1970년대 청년문화의 기세를 등에 업고 발표된 비운의 싱어 송라이터 윤지영이 발표한 데뷔작. “레미제라블”로 유명한 빅토르 위고가 쓴 동명의 시를 모티브로 삼아 윤지영이 작사, 작곡한 이 앨범의 유일한 창작곡이자 타이틀곡 <내 노래에 날개가 있다면>이 수록된 앨범으로 당대 한국 포크의 전설 ‘김민기’와 ‘따로또같이’의 리더였던 고 ‘이주원’과의 음악적 교감을 나눈 뮤지션으로서의 독창적인 재능을 엿볼 수 있는 자료적 가치가 높은 앨범.

윤지영의 대표곡 <내 노래에 날개가 있다면> 앨범은 첫 트랙 <내 노래에 날개가 있다면>의 휘파람과 통기타 선율로 시작된다. 윤지영의 존재를 당대 청년과 청소년들에게 알린 첫 히트곡이자 그의 대표곡이다. 이 곡은「레미제라블」로 유명한 빅토르 위고가 쓴 동명의 시를 모티브로 삼아 윤지영이 직접 작사, 작곡해 타이틀곡으로 수록한 앨범에서 유일한 그의 창작곡이다. 1970~1980년대 대중가요에 익숙한 동시대 청자나 한국 고전 포크에 관심이 많은 사람은 각종 70년대 포크 컴필레이션 음반에 수록된 윤지영의 이 노래를 들어봤을 것이다. 일반대중에게는 <나비소녀>로 유명한 김세화의 버전이 더 익숙할 것 같다. 김세화 버전은 이 앨범보다 5년 뒤인 1978년「김세화(나비소녀)/송창식(아홉 동그라미)」음반에서 리메이크되어 원작보다 더 큰 히트를 기록하며 폭넓은 대중의 기억 깊숙한 곳에 자리했다.
윤지영은 “당시 음반사에서 음반을 기획하면서 김민기에게 곡을 하나 맡기고 돈도 미리 선불했다”고 했다. 그런데 시간이 흘러도 신곡을 만들어오지 않자 이태원의 여관방을 하나 잡아 김민기와 윤지영을 감금하다시피 노래를 만들게 했다고 한다. 윤지영은 이 앨범에서 김민기 창작곡을 부른 인연을 이어 한국 포크음반 역사에서 저주받은 걸작으로 회자되는 2집 수록곡의 대다수를 김민기의 작품으로 구성하게 된다. 정상적으로 판매조차 되지 못해 300만원을 호가하는 2집에 비할 바는 아니지만 윤지영의 처녀작인 이 앨범도 음반수집가들 사이에서는 꽤나 진귀한 가요앨범으로 평가받는다. 45년 만에 재발매된 이 앨범은 기억에서 지워진 윤지영의 이름과 노래를 부활시켰다는 점에서 한국 포크역사의 망실된 작은 파편의 복원이라는 점에서 의미가 크다.

"This is the first album of Yoon Ji-young, from 1973 as a part and expression of youth culture. The title, "If My Song Had Wings" is based upon the poem of Victor Hugo, (famous for his "Les Miserables"), and was the only original written by Yoon Ji-young himself. Yoon Ji-young, had been somewhat forgotten. The second album from 1974 contained compositions of Kim Min-ki, a legend of the Korean folk movement. The third album, on Earth Records from 1978 is composed by Lee Ju-won. Although overlooked this solo album is meaningful. You can sense his growth process here too. Some of it can be deducted from his sympathies for the folk legend Kim Min-ki. Lee Joo-won, leader of folkrockband Lotto, more had been like a close friend.
The acoustic song "If My Song Has Wings" starting of with a whistle became his first hit which led him directly to acquaintance of Yoon Ji-young. The song is more known by the public as "Butterfly Girl" in the version of Kim Se-Hwa, which was redone in 1978, by Song Chang-sik leading to a much bigger hit than the original.
The album is now seen as a cursed master piece which remained a rare collectors item, while his second album still sold 3 million copies. This restored reissue could give it a second life."
