An essential 14-track compilation of songs from the acoustic singers period, as well some of the psych/prog albums important in Korea. I assume this oversized digipack CD also refers to the book listed underneath. Most of the records had known reissues at some stage, several of them are already no longer found. It is an essential starter for Western collectors.

신중현부터 싸이까지 국내 최초 ‘대중가요 LP 가이드북’ 출간 (2014-02-19)
유성기 SP부터 싸이 ‘강남스타일’까지 191장의 음반을 정리한 한국 최초의 ‘대중가요 LP 가이드북’이 출간됐다.
대중문화평론가, 수집가로 잘 알려진 저자 최규성 씨는 신중현의 록밴드 애드훠의 1964년 데뷔앨범 ‘비속의 여인’부터 지난해 나온 조용필의 ‘헬로’까지 반세기 동안 나온 LP를 집대성해 한국의 대중가요 역사를 총정리했다. 저자는 직접 촬영한 1300장의 LP 사진과 함께 LP에 담긴 음악, 노래를 부른 가수, 시대적 배경을 고려해 상세한 정보를 담았다.
504쪽 분량의 두터운 책은 대한민국 최초의 12인치 LP ‘KBS 레코드 시리즈’, 어두운 시대 저항의 노래를 담아 일본에서 공개됐던 김민기의 ‘금관의 예수’, 수의를 입은 김지하의 옥중앨범, 최초의 포크 앨범을 발표했던 아리랑 브라더스, 두 번이나 금지곡의 낙인이 찍혔던 ‘댄서의 순정’, 해외 마니아들 사이에서도 수집 대상이 된 신중현의 음반까지 대중음악사적으로 높게 평가받는 작품을 위주로 선정해 실었다. 저자는 “대중가요 음반을 천대하던 시절 때 제작됐던 LP들은 그런 까닭으로 수요에 비해서 공급이 부족하다. 따라서 가격은 천정부지로 솟고 있는데 LP 한 장의 가격이 백만 원을 호가하는 경우도 부지기수”라고 설명한다.

저자는 자신이 직접 수집한 음반 정보를 바탕으로 기존에 음반의 숨은 사실들을 담아내기도 한다. 저자는 구전가요로 알려진 전인권의 ‘사노라면’에 대해 “연원을 살펴보면 이 노래가 길옥윤의 곡임을 알 수 있다. 66년 김옥윤의 작곡집에 당시 인기 가수였던 쟈니 리가 ‘내일은 해가 뜬다’는 제목으로 취입을 했던 것”이라며 “시대의 아픔을 이야기했던 많은 노래들은 폭압과 검열에 의해 금지곡으로 낙인찍힌 시대에 떳떳하게 누구의 노래라고 밝히기 어려웠던 것”이라고 말한다. 이와 함께 펄시스터즈의 데뷔곡 ‘커피 한 잔’이 신중현의 밴드 에드훠 첫 앨범에 ‘내 속을 태우는구료’로 먼저 담겼고, 김광석의 ‘저 하늘의 구름 따라’가 김의철의 ‘불해아’가 원곡이며, 이남이의 히트곡 ‘울고 싶어라’를 먼저 녹음한 가수가 김세화라는 사실을 밝히고 있다. 저자는 “노래의 가수가 바뀌고, 노래의 주인이 사라지는 기막힌 사연이 아닐 수 없다”라고 말한다.
이외에도 책에는 한국 대중가요 역사의 재미난 일화들이 소개돼 있다. 노래 ‘님은 먼 곳에’의 가수가 패티김에서 김추자로 바뀐 극적인 상황, 히피로 낙인찍혀 활동에 제약이 걸린 한대수의 1집 ‘멀고 먼 길’이 제작된 사연 등이 소개되고 있다.
‘대중가요 LP 가이드북’ 출간을 기념해 책에 소개된 주요 80여 타이틀의 오리지널 앨범은 2월 말까지 서울 동교동에서 소재한 복합 카페 갤러리 1984에서 전시된다. 한편 책에 소개된 앨범은 거래된 실적에 따라 가격 등급을 정해 표기했고, 음반에 대한 기본 상식을 별도로 담았다. 부록으로는 LP 음반을 처음 접하는 사람들을 위해서 가격이 저렴하고 구입이 용이하면서 음악성과 대중성을 담보한 음반들을 한데 모아 정리했다.
대중음악평론가 성우진 씨는 추천사를 통해 “최규성 씨가 모은 실로 엄청난 음반 및 각종 대중가요 자료의 양과 상당히 안정적인 정리 상황을 보면 저절로 고개가 숙여지기도 하고 존경스럽기까지 하다. 그는 음반 수집가들에게는 절판소장’이란 닉네임이 더 친숙한 공포의 대상이며, 대중음악에 있어서는 추종을 불허할 정도의 수집가인 동시에 음악평론가 및 훌륭한 사진작가”라며 “그의 출중한 능력들이 두루 합쳐져 꾸며진 소중하고 귀한 내용의 이 책으로 인해 LP의 매력과 그 수집의 가치 및 의의가 더욱 빛을 발할 것”이라고 전했다.

Translation: The publication of Korea's first popular song LP guidebook (2014-02-19)
Korea's first “Pop Song LP Guidebook” has been published, which includes 191 albums from Yoo Sung-gi to Psych and Gangnam Style.
Author Choi Kyu-sung, a well-known critic and collector of pop culture, gathered the history of Korean pop songs through the half-century of LPs from Shin Jung-hyun's 1964 debut album, Woman in the Rain, to Cho's 'Hello'. In summary. The author contains 1,300 LP photographs taken by himself, and contains detailed information considering the music contained in the LP, the singer who sang the song, and the background of the times.
The 504-page thick book contains Korea's first 12-inch LP 'KBS Record Series', Kim Min-ki's 'Jesus of the Crown' released in Japan with songs of resistance in the dark ages, Kim Ji-ha's in-law album, and the first folk album Arirang Brothers, who released the film, `Dancer Pure'', which was banned twice, and Shin Jung-Hyun, which was collected by foreign enthusiasts, from whom were the most popular works of music. The authors write, “The LPs produced during the days of popular music albums are therefore in short supply compared to demand. Therefore, the price is skyrocketing, and even if the price of one LP is one million won, it's not enough. ”
The author also captures the hidden facts of the record based on the information he collects. The author writes about Sano Ramyun of Jeon In-kwon, known as oral song, “If you look at the source, you can see that this song is Gil Ok-yun's song. Johnny Lee, who was a popular singer at the time, wrote a song titled ``Tomorrow is rising tomorrow'' in 1987. "Many songs that talked about the pain of the era were markedly banned by riots and censorship. It was hard to say whose song it was. The debut song ``A Cup of Coffee'' by Pearl Sisters was first included in Shin Jung-hyun's band's first album as ` Burning Me Inside'', and Kim Gwang-seok's ``Follow the Clouds in the Sky' which is the original song and Kim Se-hwa who is the singer who first recorded Lee Nam's hit song 'Wanna cry'. The author says, "It is a wonderful story that the singer of the song changes and the owner of the song disappears."
In addition, the book introduces interesting anecdotes of Korean popular song history. The dramatic situation where the singer of the song ``You're Far Away'' changed from Patty Kim to Kim Choo, and the story of Han Dae-soo's 1st album, ``Long, Long Way'' which was restricted from being stigmatized by being a hippie, were introduced.
The original 80-title album, which was introduced in the book to commemorate the publication of the Popular Song LP Guidebook, will be displayed at the Complex Cafe Gallery 1984 in Donggyo-dong, Seoul until the end of February. Meanwhile, the album featured in the book was priced according to the traded performance and contained basic common sense about the record. As an appendix, we have compiled a collection of low-cost, easy-to-purchase, musical and popular records for those new to LP recording.
Popular music critic Sung Woo-jin said through his recommendation: “Chief collected by Mr. Choi Gyu-sung has a huge amount of music and various pop songs and a fairly stable arrangement. He is a more familiar to record collectors and is an unfamiliar collector of popular music, a music critic and a great photographer, ”he said. "This book of precious contents will shed more light on the appeal of LP and its value and significance."
