A release that looks and shows itself as being a retro album has been released in Japan only. It is an almost all -instrumental album based upon Hammond organ leads of known melodies. The explicitness of its artwork and title appear as a concept as was common for easy listening or popcorn hit samplers of 70s, but I find no info that this ever had been a previous release, so I guess it is just is used as a reference to the good ‘old school’ days.
The first two tracks, Hammond, drum and bass are a groovy-relaxed and more up-tempo Ethiopian classic from Mulatu Astatke. This track is followed by the sooth-rhythmical soulful “Evil Ways” (Santana), with an additional harmony vocal group and at times slightly Ethiopian jazzy sax solo. Slightly more bluesy and drunk and with a more emphasized rhythm accent as the original is “Cry me a river” (Arthur Hamilton), previously known from Julie London, Ella Fitzgerald, or more recently, Dana Krall amongst others. This Korean version knows a small flute solo too. “Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho” is a classic gospel melody. This is interpreted in a still groovy & jazzy reggae version. More funky and close to the original of Grant Green is “Sookie Sookie”, in which additional sax improvisation grooves the track amongst some Hammond solos, wobbling on the rhythm. “Besame Mucho” (composed by Consuelo Velasquez, while it was sung by many known singers like Dane Krall, Tino Rossi, etc.) gets a pleasant Hammond/ drum/ bass organ version too. The only track I don’t like so much is the more up-tempo and more commercial Korean karaoke-pop-trot schlager with duo harmony singing with Jo Jeong-Ran.
