Like most Korean 70s 'go go' albums this shows one of the more gifted psychedelic bands capable of showing skilful long jams. The longest track however is only 10 minutes and I think is just a leftover with great switches and themes of a much longer jam, showing only a glimpse how mighty this band could or must have been. Besides some nice organ, the slightly exotic multiple percussion shown on two tracks is really amazing. A really fine and recommended psych collector’s album. (I call the first track a great 60s "psych crooner" to give you an idea of that track).

‘원시적인 리듬의 향연’ 키 브라더스의 [고고 춤을 춥시다] 지금도 여름이면 어렵지 않게 들을 수 있는 ‘해변으로 가요’의 주인공 키 보이스는 국내 락 음악의 역사 가운데에서 무척이나 중요한 위치를 차지하는 그룹이다. 지금부터 꼭 40년 전에 국내 최초의 락 음반을 발표한 그룹. 또 대중적인 인기를 구가했던 최초의 신데렐라 그룹이라는 점 등은 다시 거론하지 않더라도, 그룹 구성원들의 이합집산으로 인해서 키 보이스, 히 식스, 그리고 키 브라더스라는 세 그룹이 서로 선의의 경쟁 관계를 통해서 각자 더욱 뚜렷한 개성을 가지고 발전했다는 점에서도 어렵지 않게 그 의의를 찾아볼 수 있다. 이번에 재발매되는 음반은 키 보이스에서 드럼을 연주하며, 가장 엔터테이너의 기질을 보였던 윤항기가 리드했던 그룹 키 브라더스의 데뷔음반이다. 키 브라더스의 결성은 1970년으로 거슬러 올라간다. 1960년 말 실질적으로 키 보이스는 김홍탁의 탈퇴와 함께 거의 해산한 상태였고, 윤항기는 락 앤 키라는 초기 키 보이스의 이름으로 월남 위문 공연길에 올랐다. 하지만 그가 공연에서 돌아왔을때에는, 이미 국내에는 코끼리 브라더스 출신의 조영조와 장영을 주축으로 한 2기 키 보이스가 결성이 되어서 왕성한 활약을 하고 있던 도중이었다. 주축 멤버들이 하나도 없는 그룹에게 그 이름을 빼앗겨버린 윤항기는 황급히 키 브라더스라는 이름으로 새 음반을 준비한다. 하지만, ‘이름 값’의 시너지 효과를 노린 기획사의 상흔에 의해서 이들의 첫 번째 음반은 키 보이스라는 이름으로 먼저 발매가 되었다. 이 음반의 초반 자켓에 기타 모양으로 인쇄된 키 보이스라는 로고는 그 때문에 삽입된 것이었다. 다행스럽게도 이번에 새로 재발매되는 CD에는 원래 음반 제작 당시의 취지에 맞게 ‘별이 빛나는 밤에’의 히트에 의한 두 번째 프레싱부터 바뀌었던 키 브라더스의 이름으로 발매되니 30년이 넘어서야 그 위치를 바로 잡았다고나 할까. 앞서 이야기했던 선의의 경쟁관계에 들어선 세 그룹은 각자 음악적인 성격들이 달랐다. 히 식스는 정통 하드락에 근접했던 그룹이었고, 키 보이스는 대중성을 가미한 음악으로 트로트적인 성향이 강한 락을 구사했다. 그리고 키 브라더스는 산타나(Santana)의 영향력이 짙게 느껴지는 라틴풍의 락과 사이키델릭을 적절하게 믹스한 독특한 개성을 가지고 있었다. 그들의 개성이 가장 잘 드러난 음반이 바로 첫 번째 음반인 [고고 춤을 춥시다]이다. 음반의 자켓 오른쪽에서 볼 수 있는 공연 모습은 시민회관에서 있었던 MBC-FM ‘별이 빛나는 밤에’의 첫 방송 축하공연 모습이다(오른쪽 하단에 검정색 상의를 착용한 DJ 이종환의 모습이 잡혀있다). 음반의 수록곡을 살펴보면, 앞서 이야기 한 대로 산타나의 직접적인 영향력을 느낄 수 있는 음반이다. 전 곡에서 들을 수 있는 특징은 퍼커션과 드럼으로 만들어 내는 원시적인 리듬 파트이다(음반 자켓에서 . 동시대에 활동하던 신중현의 곡을 리메이크했던 ‘봄비’, ‘님은 먼 곳에’, ‘커피 한잔’은 이들이 가진 개성과 결합하면서 가장 독특한 형태의 곡들로 새 옷을 입었다. 기존 신중현이 참여한 버전에서는 그의 입김을 배제할 수 없었기 때문에, 원곡의 큰 형태를 벗어나지 않는 범위 내에서의 진행이었던 반면, 신중현의 영향력을 벗어난 윤항기의 편곡은 말 그대로의 ‘자유분방함’을 보여주고 있다. 그 자유분방함의 궁극점을 보여주는 트랙은 바로 타이틀 트랙이다. ‘Evil Ways-Jingo-봄 타령’으로 이어지는 10여분 동안의 메들리는 단순히 외국 곡을 카피하는 단계를 넘어서 청자들을 몰아지경의 경지로 빠져들게 하는 중독성 강한 곡이다. 물론, 음반 가운데에서 대중적으로 가장 많은 사랑을 받았던 곡은 윤항기의 끈끈한 탁성이 매력적이었던 ‘별이 빛나는 밤에’였다. FM 라디오방송의 제목으로 쓰일 만큼 인기가 있었던 그 곡은 이들의 다음 음반에 수록된 ‘장미빛 스카프’와 함께 윤항기를 대표하는 곡이 되었다. 하지만, 말 그대로 ‘윤항기’의 대표곡이 되었을 뿐 ‘키 브라더스’의 그것이 되지는 못하였다. 데뷔작인 본 작 이후 두장의 음반을 더 발표했지만, 이들은 이미 그룹의 의미보다는 윤항기의 벡밴드의 위치로 밖에는 보여지지 못했다. 두 번째 음반인 [키-부러더즈 특선집]과 유니버설에서 신세기로 이적한 후 발표한 [윤항기와 키브라더스]를 마지막으로 결국 윤항기는 독립을 하게되고, 이후 수많은 히트곡을 발표한 국민가수의 대열에 합류하게 된다. 이 음반들 이외에도 키 브라더스의 이름으로 발표된 음반이 두 장 더 있기는 하지만, 윤항기라는 커다란 축을 잃어버린 음반으로 ‘존재’의 의미 이외에 다른 의미를 부여하기는 힘든 음반이라고 할 수 있겠다. 키 브라더스의 [고고 춤을 춥시다]는 당시 열악한 녹음장비와 기술, 그리고 소위 원 테이크 녹음이라고 부르는 스튜디오 라이브와 같은 상황 아래에서 녹음된 결과물임에도 불구하고 아쉬움보다는 오히려 풍요로움이 느껴지는 음반이다. 비록 물질적으로는 한없이 부족하던 시대였지만, 그 열정만은 누구에게도 뒤지지 않았던 당시의 음악인들의 모습이 바로 옆에서 연주하는 듯 생생하게 그려지기 때문일까. 비록 마스터 테잎의 부재로 LP음원을 통한 클릭음이 들리기는 하지만, 그 마저도 산뜻하게 다가온다. 음반의 상업성 유무를 떠나서 과감한 재발매 결정을 내린 뮤직 리서치의 담당자들에게 박수를 보낸다. 월간 핫뮤직 송명하

목회를 하고 있는 지금도 가끔은 무대에서 록 음악을 하던 기억을 되살리곤 한다.

심신이 고단하고 난관에 봉착하였을 때 사람들이 종교를 찾듯이 록큰롤도 역시 그러한 사람들을 위한 음악이라고 생각한다. 당시 어수선한 사회분위기 속에서 록큰롤이야말로 젊은이들에게 유일한 돌파구이자 희망이었을 때, 월남파명위문을 위한 공연을 마치고 귀국한 키브라더스는 다시 무대 위에서 절정에 오른 현란한 연주로 마치 무아지경에 빠지듯 강렬한 락을 선사했다. 바로 그때 발표되었던 키브라더스의 고고춤을 춥시다가 이번에 CD로 재발매 됨을 개인적으로 기쁘게 생각한다. 글_윤항기

수집가들에게 표적의 대상이 되고 있는 키브라더스의 데뷔앨범에는 대한민국 최초 라틴 락을 완벽하게 시도했던 장편 <고고 춤을 춥시다>와 윤항기의 불후의 명곡 <별이 빛나는 밤에>의 최초 버전이 수록되어 있어 현재도 LP는 그들 사이에 고가에 거래가 되고 있다.

이 앨범의 초반은 당시 음반사의 상술에 의해 지명도가 높았던 키브라더스의 전신 <키 보이스>라는 그룹명이 앨범 자켓에 새겨졌으나, 나중에 키브라더스로 정정이 되어 다시 발매되기도 하였다. 그래서 이번 리마스터 CD는 윤항기씨의 권유로 전설의 키브라더스 원래 그룹명을 되찾는 디자인으로 결정하였다. 하지만 초반 자켓 디자인을 고집하는 수집가들을 위해 역시 내지에 첨부하였다.

"A Feast of Rhythm" by Key Brothers [Let's Go Go Dancing]

Key Boys, the main character of 'Go to the Beach', a track which is still difficult to listen to in the summer, is a very important group in the history of Korean rock music. The group which released the nation's first rock record 40 years ago. Also, not to mention that it was the first Cinderella group to have gained popularity, the group's dichotomy makes the three groups, Key Boys, His Six, and Key Brothers, even more distinctive in their good faith. It is not difficult to find the significance in the development with personality.

The album will be re-released by the group Key Brothers, led by a member who played drums at Key Boys and who lead the most entertainer's talent. The formation of Key Brothers dates back to 1970. In late 1960, Key Boys was virtually disbanded with Kim Hong-tak's withdrawal, and Yun Hang-gi was on the Nambu exposition under the name of the early Key Boys, Rock and Key. However, when he returned from the performance, they had already been active in Korea, with the 2nd Key Boys mainly composed of Cho Young-Jo and Jang Young from Elephant Brothers. Yoon Hang-gi, whose name was taken from a group without any major members, hastily prepared a new album under the name of Key Brothers. However, the first album was released under the name of Key Voice, due to the scars of the agency's synergistic effect on the 'name value'.

The Key Boys logo, printed in the shape of a guitar on the jacket of the record, was inserted for that reason. Fortunately, the newly re-released CD was released under the name of Key Brothers, which was changed from the second press by the hit of "Starry Night'' in line with the original production of the album.

The three groups in the well-intentioned rivalry discussed earlier had different musical personalities. His Six / He6 was a group close to orthodox hard rock, and Key Boys used a trot-like rock with popular music. The Key Brothers had a unique personality that mixed Latin rock and psychedelic with Santana's influence. The best record of their personality is the first album, "Let's Dance". The performance on the right side of the album's jacket is the first broadcast celebration of MBC-FM 'Starry Night' at the Citizen's Hall (DJ Lee Jong-hwan wearing a black jacket on the bottom right).

If you look at the tracks, you can feel Santana's direct influence as mentioned above. The features that can be heard in all the songs are the primitive rhythm parts that are produced by percussion and drums (in the record jacket. Combining their personalities, they wore new clothes with the most unique forms of music.In the version of Shin Ji Hyun, which was participated in, he could not exclude his dressing, so it was a process that did not deviate from the original form of the original song. Yun Hang-ki's arrangement out of the box shows literally 'free spirit', and the ultimate track of the free spirit is the title track: Medley for 10 minutes leading up to 'Evil Ways-Jingo-Bomtaryeong' It's an addictive song that goes beyond the steps of copying a foreign song and drives listeners to a state of wonder. A popular song received much love from the music center was "on a starry night", which was sticky takseong of yunhanggi attraction.

The song, which was popular enough to be the title of an FM radio broadcast, became the representative song of Yoon Hang Gi along with the “Rose Scarf” on their next album. However, it literally became the representative song of Yun Hang-ki, but not that of Key Brothers. After the debut, the two more albums were released, but they were already seen as the position of Yun Hang-gi's back band rather than the group's meaning.

The second album [Key-Brothers' Special Collection] and [Yang Hanggi and Key Brothers] released after transferring to New Century from Universal, finally Yun Hang-gi became independent, and since then, many singers have released numerous hit songs. In addition to these albums, there are two more albums released under the name of Key Brothers, but it is hard to give any meaning other than the meaning of 'being' because they have lost the big axis of Yoon Hang Gi.

Key Brothers' Let's Go Go Dance is a record of richness rather than unfortunateness, despite the recordings made at the time of poor recording equipment and technology, and the so-called 'One Take' recording. Although it was a time when there was no shortage of materiality, is the passion only vividly depicted by the musicians of the time who were second to none? Although the sound of the click through the LP sound source can be heard due to the absence of the master tape, it is also refreshing. I applaud the staff of Music Research, who made a bold re-release decision, leaving the record commercially viable.
