Shin Jung Hyun & Donkeys
Radioshow comments : "Here Shin Jung Hyun & Donkeys were backing band for a basically mainstream song oriented release. Still, the psych elements are all there (electric guitars, organ,..), especially in some tracks. The first chosen song ("Petal" possibly means "marijunana") has some orchestration arrangement too. Last 16 minute track is similar and is the complete B-side of the album. Of course here's more room for band improvisation. This means a melodic repetition (drum,

이수만과 365일 - Lee Su-Man & 365 Days (Lee Soo-Man)
I was first told this album was with Shin Yung Hyun, which does not seem to be true. The singing is mostly uninteresting mainstream rock and early rock. Only third track is more interesting, like the 7th instrumental. "The singer (or the leader of the band 365days) is Sooman Lee. Yes, the music is not interesting. And Lee has become an impresario in current music industry. If you are curious about him, you can read one chapter of a book pop-Goes-Korea-Revolution written by a

신중현과 그의 민아 - Shin Jung-Hyun Cambo Band
Folkie Jin : "Normal price over 800$. Musical performance by Shin Jung-Hyun and his cambo band. Guest female singers are Min A, Bonnie Girls, Ju Hyun. He started his "Shin Jung-Hyun and his cambo band" summer 1971. He recorded this record with some guest female singers. These are (the) Bonnie girls (female duo and also they are famous Korean pop star in the 70's, -at first they debuted with shin jung hyun-), Ju Hyun,Min A. Musical features of this album are very psychedelic w

남사당 - NamSaDang / Nam Sa Dong
남사당 (보컬 : 오세은,한영애,이보임)오세은 (남사당) Radioshow comments : "A bit more modern sound here (some use of synthesiser in the first tracks) , but still a bit "progresive" in its core. I chose first track because it sounds very Korean rock styled. These are original interpretations of Shin Jung-Hyun songs. Also the third track is a Korean traditional, interpreted with a kind of jazzrock accompaniment. The 4th track (like the two last tracks) is an acoustic guitar instrumental of a Korean

이주원 - Lee Joo-Won (Tarotogachi)
This album is one of the few later generation albums that still has all the interesting elements, sometimes coming out perfectly, more than once being somewhat ridiculed by the tendencies of the times to make safe albums with adult lullabies, showing the man in perfect setting, comfortable and harmless. The fine elements are a lush orchestra, a rock band, a great voice, attention to detail, well-mixed studio work, and a feeling for fine harmony. The album starts at its best w

Books on Korean Pop
Mark Russell started to live in South Korea since 1996. He had witnessed the continuous economic growth of Korea (called the Korean Wave). I guess his main interested is film, while his focus in the book also explains thoroughly the economic process itself. What interests me for my website is of course mainly the section about music, which still is the least worked out part of the book. Of course we still have in a very short the story of “the grandfather of rock”, -Shin Joon

Horizon
SRMK 0008 Horizon: Dreamer's Island (2002) The first track is good melodic-(neo-) progressive (with drums, bass, keyboards). The second track is with heavenly female vocals (her voice is similar to some singers of some gothic-metal groups). This evolves to an instrumental rather dark moody fusing experimental passage using echoes and improvisations. The third also interesting track starts very moody with birdsounds and slowly builds up. The fourth track is more chamber music
